Children's Conference

A worldwide theater project from 2014 - 2018

Description

Children's Conference

Background

What is priceless?

In response to the banking crisis, the Papiertheater ("paper theater") established a large table in public space from 2009-2013 as a forum for citizens around the world (further information: unbezahlbar-daspapiertheater.de)

In addition to the various country-specific responses, one connecting common denominator could be found: "Children are priceless - and so is their well-being".

From this perspective, the Papiertheater has developed the project CHILDREN’S CONFERENCE. For a period spanning 4 years, children and adolescents from all over the globe should be encouraged to speak their minds and thus remind of this common denominator in our complex world.

We ask children and young people about their fears and desires regarding their future lives and their demands on society. What do the children think about contemporary ecological, political and social issues? What are their ideas? What can adults learn from it?

Questionnaire

The basis of the CONFERENCE OF CHILDREN is the specially developed "questionnaire". Each child can design it individually and thus publish his or her own opinion. The Papiertheater collects all books received by 2018 in order to put them in the public spotlight at the "CHILDREN’S SUMMIT CONFERENCE" in Nuremberg on September 20, 2018.

Do you want to participate? Order the "Questionnaire" here.

Conference Theater

Deepening the process of the CHILDREN’S CONFERENCE will take place in the so-called "Conference Theater". Within three days, the Papiertheater develops a scenic play with a group of 10-30 children & young people in which the contents of the questionnaires are being staged. Through music, dance and paper art, the children and adolescents will play their topics on the stage.

The CONFERENCE OF CHILDREN intends to be a public invitation to take children's opinions seriously. It wants to empower children and teenagers to be heard.

For this reason, through the course of the "Conference Theater" children and adolescents approach adults on the street and ask them for the opportunity to write their central messages with chalk paint on their cars.

Children’s Summit Conference / Future now!

Under the patronage of the Lord Mayor Dr. Ulrich Maly, the project “Future now!, will take place at the "Straße der Menschenrechte" ("Street of Human Rights") in Nuremberg from September 20-30, 2018.

This is a Children’s Summit Conference after four years of research work. Several children and adolescents from the respective “Conference Theaters” we had conducted and implemented worldwide are invited – and, of course, all children and adolescents from Nuremberg and all over the world are welcome too.

The central event will take place during the opening weekend (September 22/23, 2018) at the "Germanisches Nationalmuseum" (German National Museum); and from there, the further programme will be developed at Künstlerhaus Nürnberg and at the Kornmarkt.

The event focuses these questions: How can the children’s and adolescents’ conference thoughts be made visible locally, across Europe, and around the world? How can politicians be held accountable? How can the thoughts of children and adolescents be translated into actions so that concrete scopes emerge? How can we build a grandchildren-fit future?

Each "questionnaire" collected during the process of the Children’s Conferences will be displayed, prompting fruitful discussions. Subsequently, concrete steps for implementing the ideas will be discussed in various forums – for the "future now!". After the event, each child gets their own personal questionnaire sent back.

During the CHILDREN’S SUMMIT CONFERENCE, one project for the children involves the development and publication of a brand new "Questionnaire for adults". This new book will be sent to 100 selected persons picked by the participating kids. Linked to a specific exhibition date, the recipients are prompted to answer the children’s questions from their individual points of view. During the exhibition 100 pedestals will be mounted – and if recipients fail to answer and send back their questionnaire, their respective pedestal will remain vacant.

Future now! means: Children and young adults have a longer future ahead of them than us grown-ups – and, thus, must be given the opportunity to shape the world accordingly.
